Making a choice to live a different life is not easy. Often times change comes roaring in like a thundering storm. Sometimes the lightning strikes, sometimes it doesn’t. Change can incapacitate you and sometimes it is the doorway to a better life. Since Wednesday when the internet at my apartment building was back on thoughts of getting my body moving have been spontaneous. Friday when I went into the gym area of the rec room and discovered there is a stationary bike there. I almost leaped for joy. One of my major goals that I want to accomplish is to ride the Seattle to Portland Marathon in 2015. I have other small fitness goals I want to accomplish. During this whole process of my journey of being immobile due to my Vasculitis disease I have been dreaming about jumping, riding, and running. I’ve been craving movement. Yet I have been deeply discouraged and though I have made strides towards a healthier lifestyle I still feel inadequate with my progress.

I am happy to report that next Monday the 31st I will be going to my first physical therapy appointment with Rebound. Though I am a bit discouraged by having to do physical therapy I am hoping it will jump start me into fully moving my body in healthy ways. With the discovery that the stationary bike in my apartment’s gym I am aiming to start riding that bike in preparation for the marathon. I have also written this into the habit building app called Lift. I put 3 habits into the Lift app that I am aiming to meet for the next 3 months. I plan on doing weekly goals so that I am aiming high and not just sitting around on my sofa watching TV and feeling sorry for myself. Here are the three main goals for 3 months:

1)  Moving my body in any way that I can, riding the stationary bike when I walk down to the rec room to use the internet daily and finishing physical therapy.

2)  Drinking 3 liters of water daily to hydrate my body while I am moving my body.

3)  Eating more vegetables and fruit by taking advantage of the farmers market and the discount produce stores I have found, Gateway Produce and Chuck’s Produce.

How do I aim to reach these goals? I aim to reach them by taking it week by week as I start using Myfitnesspal again to track my food and movements. I know that stretching will be a big part of my physical therapy and so I can use that as warm ups and I can use the bike riding as my cardio. Thankfully I now I have a caregiver who comes in on Saturdays so I can take advantage of the farmer’s market. Also she told me about Gateway Produce and Chuck’s Produce so this will help me buy more vegetables and fruit that will be better for me to snack on. I will nourish my body. Thankfully I am already taking advantage of the stores by buying red and green cabbage, kale, beets, onions, pineapple, apples, and other veggies and fruits.

These are my goals and as God says in Isaiah 41:13 “For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, who says to you, Fear not, I will help you!”
