West from Home by Laura Ingalls Wilder illustrates why I love her so much. Her writing is like eating a delicate home cooked meal that soothes the soul. This book is about the time in the summer and fall of 1915 when she went to San Francisco to visit her daughter Rose. She left Manny home to take care of the farm. She encounters new sites, cultures, and city life in a new way, seeing a car for the first time and the trolley.

I never knew this book existed, but I was lucky to find it at the giveaway table of my apartment. Thank you to whoever left it there. I devoured this book in a couple of days. I now desire to read the Little House series again. Somehow reading Laura Ingalls Wilder brings a sense of joy to my heart. Just like Lucy Maud Montgomery.
