A couple of years ago I watched a documentary called “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” that changed how I viewed nutrition. It starred Joe who was fighting an autoimmune disease like I was. He chose to go on a 60 day juice fast that consisted of him juicing fruit and vegetables. I was enthralled with his journey and also inspired. So I was excited to see his newest documentary “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead 2”.
What did I take away from watching this documentary? My belief that food is medicine was made stronger. Though I still resist this school of thought. I found it fascinating that Joe and Phil still struggle with maintaining a healthy lifestyle. One of the things that they briefly touched on was the emotional aspect of becoming healthier and staying that way. Dr. Dean Ornish said loneliness leads to depression which leads to eating more than you should. I have to concur with this assessment. Another key element that Joe attacked was the fact that living a healthy life is an on-going process. That requires a decision about food, the people we choose to allow to be a part of our lives. I recommend you watch both movies and be inspired to do small changes to help you become the best you can be.
