This week I am in physical pain. I am blessed that I do not often get physical pain with my RA or with my Wegener’s disease. My leg swelled up and my joints ache. I don’t like to dwell on the negative. So I grabbed one of the tools that I learned in the “Living Well with Chronic Conditions” class last spring. I was blessed with a gift of a coloring book that my sister ordered for me off of TV. I’ve been getting the artsy, creative side of me rocking. I am usually reading, writing, or watching a movie. It feels good to embrace and do another activity that will keep my mind off of my woes and focus on a positive activity. I have colored 5 pages so far. I’ve been reading a lot from Chronic Babe, and other blogs from fellow chronic illness’ that I follow that coloring is an activity that they enjoy doing. It relaxes them, allows them to get their mind off of their pain, and even uplifts there spirit. Even one lady takes the opportunity to pray and meditate on God while she is coloring. I like that idea.

To me it is important to have relaxing things that don’t hurt to do while suffering from our chronic conditions. And I’m happy to discover that color therapy is one of those things I can have in my arsenal to help me enjoy my pain days a bit more and not rip my hair out in agony. Have you tried color therapy?
