I was born in 1974 a few years after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Therefore, I didn’t know that much about his legacy or his wife’s. When I was in high school I wrote a paper about Martin Luther King J., there were only a few books about him in the early 90’s, we didn’t have Internet at that time. Can you imagine that? I definitely didn’t know anything about his widow, Coretta Scott King and her own legacy and work in the Civil Rights movement.

I’m thankful that I was given an opportunity to read “My Life, My Love, My Legacy by Coretta Scott King and Dr. Barbara Reynolds. Mrs. King is the kind of lady I want to be. Like her husband she believe in standing up against the bullies who wanted to take away the rights of others. Many do this with violence and to hurt others just because they are different then they are and because they are different are fearful. They let fear be their guide. Mrs. King knew how to build relationship with all culturally diverse people and therefore she helped many with her kindness and respect.

This book is a well-documented testimony of what building each other up instead of tearing each other down looks like. Along with reading about her own history with Dr. King, I was given a history lesson of the Civil Right movement. I hope you my fellow readers will pick this gem up and learn.
