I have an autoimmune disease, in fact, two of them. I have Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (also known as Wegener’s) and Rheumatoid arthritis. Thankfully with medication and working on my own wellness my inflammation and illnesses are in remission.

While searching for books on my libraries website I found Mickey Trescott and Angie Alt’s book The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook. I’ve been following Trescott and Alt’s blog for quite some time.

I love that the authors say right off that each of us with an autoimmune illness will have our own journey to wellness and we shouldn’t compare results. The wellness journey is an individual’s own personal path to healing. I appreciate their manifesto. I agree with all of the points.

Here is their manifesto:

Trust your intuition. You don’t need a guru to navigate the process successfully.

Embrace the template. This is not a one size fits all process. Their template promotes individuality and self-discovery.

Information is power. Learn enough to be an informed and proactive advocate for your health.

Start simple. Being with the foundations of diet, sleep, stress management, movement, and relationships before delving deeper.

Take it slow. Don’t be afraid to make changes in phases.

Food is your friend. It provides nourishment to every single cell in your body!

Set yourself up for success. Planning and preparation are the keys.

Be a nutrient seeker. Don’t ignore the foods that accelerate healing and restore health.

Food over supplements.

Don’t diet harder. Resist the temptation to further restrict instead of troubleshoot.

Seek help. When necessary, thoughtfully add practitioners to your team who don’t under mind your authority.

Test, don’t guess. Always use testing to reveal root issues, if progress is not as expected.

Be skeptical. Magic bullets that only the elite can afford are not the solution to our health care crisis.

Strive for balance. Restoring your health is a worthy pursuit, bit it is not a religion.

Support is crucial. If your networks aren’t strong enough, explore ways to add to your human connections.

Reframe the negatives. Find areas where your life has been expanded by your experience with illness.

Practice gratitude. Give thought energy to what is good in your life.

Keep your eyes on your own journey. The path to wellness is unique for all of us. Resist the urge to compare.

Health before image. Value wellness above numbers on a scale or reflections in a mirror.

Vibrant health is a lifelong journey. Nobody ever regrets investing in his or her own wellness. Enjoy the process of restoring your health.

Amen! That is what I have to say about the manifesto of this book. The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook has 7 key steps. They are inform, collaboration, nourish, rest, breathe, move, and connect. It’s a beautiful book, choke full of great tips, information, and guides to help you get more information, and at the end recipes that look scrumptious. I recommend this book for those of us who are chronic babes, especially if you are newly diagnosed. This will be a great help to you.
