In exchange for my honest review of The Blessing of Humility by Jerry Bridges I was given a free copy by Tynsdale. The opinions I express are my own and were in no way influenced.

I was supposed to get The Blessing of Humility by Jerry Bridges, but it never came in the mail. I ended up checking it out at the library. I’m glad that I did. The Beatitudes is one of the scriptures in Matthew 5 that makes your heart think and I sometimes don’t think I understand them at all. With Bridges book you dive into the deeper meaning of the Matthew 5 and the Beatitudes.

Bridges believes and so do I the hardest Beatitudes to work with because our egos get in the way is Matthew 5:5 where it says “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” I like what Bridges wrote. He said in essence that Meek is an action word. You respond to God’s work and you also are submitted of God’s providence. It’s hard giving up our own natural man will. It is hard not to want to control, to make things happen, to sit and be still and let go do what he wants and wills for your life. Our egos get in the way. I find myself letting my ego get in the way. Saying how awesome I am, that I can do this and that, but in reality is this insecurity. If we are meek and have humility aren’t we in reality saying we trust God and we don’t need our ego to tell us how awesome and great we are.

This book gave me a ton to think about and to consider as I am meandering my way through my own journey with God. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to dive deeper into God’s word and the Beatitudes.
