In exchange for my review I was given a copy of “High as the Heavens” by Kate Breslin from Bethany House. The opinions I express are my own and were in no way influenced.

Lately, I have been reading a lot more fiction novels, one of them that I enjoyed a lot was Kate Breslin’s “High as the Heavens”. It’s a historical novel centered on World War I. What I liked the most is the story of Eve who is not only a pilot, but she works as a nurse and then a waitress in Belgium during the power struggle between Germany and the rest of the world. She is trying to save her family. She is a hero in my book. The way Breslin goes between her past life to her present life was smooth and I didn’t feel lost while trying to decipher the words. The romance section was not gross or nasty like some romance novels. I didn’t feel like this was an unnecessary part of the story, but it was showing the love between a husband and a wife. I appreciate that.

I was also fascinated with the information she shared about World War I and the complications of that war and what people were willing to do to protect themselves and their community. I think in this modern day age we miss those things.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical novels. Anyone who enjoys World War I stories or a clean romance. This book is for you.
