In exchange for my review I was given a free copy of Allison Allen’s book “Shine: Stepping into the Role You Were Made For” by Revell. The opinions I express are my own and I was not influenced.

“Shine: Stepping into the Role You Were Made For” by Allison Allen is not the type of book I would normally read. It seemed from the title and the back cover that it was going to be dramatic, girly, and something that I am not, artistic. It is all those things, despite my judgement I found myself drawn into the words, scripture, and the soul that Allen wanted to share with me.
Here is one example of how she drew me in. I am paraphrasing: we are the main role in our story and sometimes we are the supporting role for someone else’s story. This allows others to shine. God is first, and the story is first.
To me this means that God has and still masterfully allows others and myself to shine. We are all valuable to the story he is creating. Without each other there would be no story, no community, no parts to play. I love that.
There are many other jewels in Allen’s book. I found myself thinking about the story God is creating with my illness, and all the other parts to the team. I may be the lead, but there are so many other people that help me to shine, to tell my story. We are all valuable.
I am still not artistic, and I know that many of who want to shine will find valuable insights in Allen’s book.
