I’m not a big sports person, the only sports that I watched when I was a kid was baseball because that was my dads favorite. He really liked the Cardinals and The Oakland A’s. Those were his teams. When I received Forgotten Teams by Pat Williams I wasn’t sure what I would be reading. I never had a coach. I have had teachers, but I always thought coaches and teachers were two different things. Turns out I was wrong. Coaches teach the fundamentals of working together, self-care as it turns out putting your socks and shoes on properly really does affect the game, and most importantly how to respect themselves, their elders, their teammates, and their opponents.

Coach Wooden taught all the teams and players he worked a lot of valuable lessons in their lives. The most important lesson, relationships matter. It isn’t all about you, it’s about everyone. I like that.

I am still not a sports fan, but anyone who is a coach themselves, or a player, no matter what sport they are in would benefit from reading this book and learning about a man who taught a lot of players the value of basketball and relationships. This book is for anyone at any age, and I believe the older reader would be shaking their heads in agreement and even perhaps, shouting amen to some of these wise instructions.

In exchange for my review of Pat Williams book Forgotten Teams I was given a free copy from Revell. The opinions I express are my own and I was not influenced.
