My second Apothecary at Home was on Mental Health. I received Chamomile, Lemon Balm, and Lavender. I love all these herbs. I use lavender essential oil every night in my diffuser to help promote sleep and relaxation a couple of hours before bedtime. It works for me. I have drunk lemon balm tea and chamomile tea too. I enjoy them too. I love that these three herbs came in their natural dried form so that I can choose what to do with them. I chose to make a face toner for myself from a DIY recipe that I found for myself. If I would have left out the apple cider vinegar from the toner it would have been amazing.

Here is some more information about the herbs:

 

Lavender: Is one of my favorite smells. Like I said above, I use it nightly as a sleep aid and relaxation aid. The science name for lavender is Lavare and Lavandula. Lavender is native to the Mediterranean region that includes France, Spain, and Italy. (One day I will go to all three of these places). Lavender is part of the mint family and it is an evergreen shrub. It can be used for Anxiety Management, as a sleep aid, a relaxation aid, skin care, for food and beverage for flavor, and for wound care and skin care. Males should be cautious about using lavender because it can enhance the breast tissue in men. If you start getting itchy or red stop the use because it means you are allergic. If you use an essential oil on your body makes sure you dilute it.

 

Chamomile:  The oldest medicinal herb known to mankind there are two kinds of chamomile Roman and German. It depends on the regions of Europe which one it is. Chamomile is part of the daisy family. Chamomile has 120 different healing constituents to aid in healing. 28 of the chemicals are from Terpenoids, 36 flavanoids chemicals, and 56 compounds which all aid in healing a person. Chamomile relieves mouth pain. It also promotes Gastrointestinal health. It also contributes to wound healing. And of course, most of us have used in tea form to promote in sleeping. Those who use blood thinners need to consult their doctor before using ingesting chamomile.

 

Lemon Balm: Scientific name is Melissa Officinalis. It is part of the mint family. It is commonly used in cooking for marinade and teas. For healing medicine, it helps with digestive tract issues, anxiety, liver issues, a sleep aid, and cold sores. The side effects include headaches, nausea, gas, and bloating. Short term use is recommended in small dosage. Long term use is not recommended. If you take medication for thyroids issues, Blood thinners, chemo drugs, or glaucoma drugs it is recommended you consult your physician before using.
