I was first introduced to Tori Amos music from my nephew when he came to stay with me in early 2001. He came up from Florida and needed a place to live for a while, so he came to live with me. I had not seen him in years since we were both children. I was a junior in high school and he was four years younger. When he came, he brought his guitar, his music collection of Tori Amos, Tool, and A Perfect Circle and that is how I was introduced to her. Honestly, I did not pay that much attention, because I had a lot going on at that period of my life. I was in a toxic relationship that sucked up all my energy. When my nephew and I were younger we used to share music together and I think that me not responding positively to his sharing impacting our relationship. I feel badly about this. I do better now. I’m no longer in a toxic relationship.

Later on, one of my oldest friends Summer re-introduced me to her music. She bought me my first CD.  The Album was Boys for Pele. I still own it. I love it. Then I went on to purchase my own. During the pandemic Summer purchased Tori’s book Resistance, an autograph copy and had it sent to me so that I could read it first. Two years later, I have finally read it. Sorry Summer that it took me so long. Thank you for your kindness of letting me read it first. As usual, Amos, flares for words and passion for life and wellbeing is evident in her writing. She listens to her “muses” well and you can tell by her being. I love that about her. I love her deep, poetic thoughts, and powerful words. She says what she needs to well and with great passion. I wish I had that ability. I am still learning to listen to my “muses”. I love that this book breaks down each song with the lyrics and what she was thinking or going through at the time. She even talks about her childhood and growing up and all sorts of things. I got an insight into the artists, mom, wife, sister, and daughter and most importantly a human being who loves people and all living things.

So, if you are a Tori Amos music lover, then I suggest you read this book too. I see she has a few of them. This was my first one and I am glad that I was given the chance to get to know the lady behind everything. This was a fun read for me. Again, thank you Summer.
