I have been stuck in a novel that I have won off of Goodreads called “The Peach Seed” by first time author Anita Gail Jones. This is an intense history of one family and how this one carving went through generations, an ancestor carved it out of a peach seed and taught his sons how to carve. I love rich historical novels and this is one of these.
There is more to this story the main charioteer that you meet along with his sister at the local Piggy Wiggly in Albany Georgia Fletcher smells a woman’s perfume that he had not smelled in years and years. Turns out he is bitter with her, he gave her the peach carving that was meant for his wife when they were young teenagers and madly in love. He thought she was his one and only. I’m not going to spoil the story of what happened and why they did not get married and have a bliss life together. Instead, Fletcher was cursed is what he perceived from it.
I liked this story. There is a lot of heart and soul into this novel and the dynamics of the characters including his children and grandchildren who are helping him clear his land of old automobiles and junks because the state wants him too.
I recommend this novel. This is a good story to lost in.
