While at OHSU recovering from Pneumonia and lung surgery I listened to Brene Brown’s book Strong Ground and I colored. While awaiting my surgery I developed non bacteria pneumonia in my lung. I ended up on antibiotics and on the ventilator. It was painful. I made it through though. Not my first time being on a ventilator.

Strong Ground focuses on building your core, your foundation with exercises, nutrition, spiritual growth, relationship, anything that is at the core/foundation of who you are. While coloring in the ICU, I listened to Brown explain her own journey with a sports coach for her pickle ball and how it manifested into her personal and business life. I listened, I heard, I journaled, and I realized that the way I viewed my physical therapy exercises was wrong. I call them old people’s exercises. In truth, they are core/foundational exercises. One needs the core/foundation to be strong in order to do anything. Just like you need oxygen to be able to live well and move.

I have been home for a couple of weeks. I am focusing on core/foundational things to keep me grounded, to  keep myself strong. Brown talks about strong ground a lot. Strong ground includes stability, flexibility, strength, and balance. All of these are core foundations for life.

I recommend this book, and it is great to listen to as an audio book too.
