Message from Jamie Holloway
For eleven years I have been learning to live well with chronic illness. It hasn’t been perfect. I haven’t always been successful at achieving my goals. It has been a chaotic, messy, learning experience that has made my life adventurous. I have learned a lot about how complicated, dangerous & even emotionally, spiritually & mentally draining living with several diagnoses is.
I am asked by my many doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, family, strangers & store clerks how I have maintained my good attitude despite the many medical adventures, I have lived through, that might have left me feeling bitter, angry, broken & unforgiving. All I can say is, I made decisions & I followed through. One decision was to fight for me. Jesus fought for me so why shouldn’t I?
I also realized, I didn’t want my crawl through lifelong sickness, just for my own benefit. I wanted to be a wellness advocate & help those who are in the same predicament. I wanted to be one of the helpers that Mr. Roger’s speaks about. I do this by reminding myself that my attitude can help me navigate through the dark channels of chronic illness.
I am determined to say thank you to the doctors, nurses, caregivers, anyone who helps me. Showing gratitude reminds you that your life is not over just because you are sick. I say thank you & I mean it. I also decided that I didn’t want to become idle. I want to actually accomplish something, so I started writing.
I believe communicating my pain, needs, & being willing to listen as part of communication allows me to be able to be in a good relationship with my team. I have a good support system of family, friends, doctors, nurses, & caregivers who allow me to achieve many of the goals I have made. I am able to live in my home & able to keep on breathing, writing, reading & loving on my boy, Nicholas.
Since 2017 I have been an owner of Wellness Works NW. I serve as the Research Manager. I am a lead writer & my column is called Chasing Wellness.

Break Through
I love reading memoirs that tell about the greatness and power of Jesus. In Break Through by Joyce Smith you get such a story. A mother prays over her son who just fell through ice and died for a bit before she prayed over him and he came by to life. There is more to...
Ramblings From Sleep
It’s one of those nights when sleep does not come. There are many reasons sleep does not come easy for me, these includes, the large volume nebulizer that sits right next to my bed that I have to wear all night long and sounds like a large compressor by...
James: A Biblical Commentary
This year I started reading my Bible in Chronological order with a few people on the YouVersion Bible App. We are in the book of Joshua right now, even so I devoured Joyce Meyer’s newest book a Biblical commentary on the book of James. I have...
Remarkable Hope
Every now and again there comes a book that just sparks encouragement into your soul through scripture. In Shauna Letellier’s new Book Remarkable Hope she does this by using her own vivid words to put new life into Jesus wisdom and journey when he...
Taste and See
Nothing speaks to people than food. Food connects people together. We celebrate with food. We even connect with God with food, especially during Jewish festivals and Christmas and Easter. In Margaret Feinberg’s book “Taste and See” we explore this very...
The Louder Song
Lamenting does not come easy for me. I had a hard time starting Aubrey Sampson’s book The Louder Song. I made a commitment to read it and review it, so I reluctantly read it. Now I know why, it isn’t because Sampson is a horrible writer, it was...
Remembering
I remember a time when nothing on my body hurt. I remember a time when I could walk freely without feeling like I was going to fall over or that oxygen was limited. I remember a time when I could ride my bike, walk 3 miles without stopping, dance joyously, and talk...
I Declare War
When I first read the title of Levi Lusko’s book I Declare War it sounded like it would be a war mongering book. Then I saw the smaller print “4 Keys to Winning the Battle with Yourself”. This book came at the right moment for me as I continue my fight...
Praying God’s Will For Your LIfe
Prayer has been one constant connection that I use in my relationship with God. I pray often and through many of the struggles that I have endured and am enduring in my life, especially concerning my illnesses. I have seen God’s workings throughout my...
God Made Me
I haven’t read a children’s book in a long time so when I was offered to review a copy I said why not. I’m glad I did. I enjoyed watching Veggie Tales with my nieces and nephews when they were smaller and I am looking forward to when they start...
