Message from Jamie Holloway
For eleven years I have been learning to live well with chronic illness. It hasn’t been perfect. I haven’t always been successful at achieving my goals. It has been a chaotic, messy, learning experience that has made my life adventurous. I have learned a lot about how complicated, dangerous & even emotionally, spiritually & mentally draining living with several diagnoses is.
I am asked by my many doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, family, strangers & store clerks how I have maintained my good attitude despite the many medical adventures, I have lived through, that might have left me feeling bitter, angry, broken & unforgiving. All I can say is, I made decisions & I followed through. One decision was to fight for me. Jesus fought for me so why shouldn’t I?
I also realized, I didn’t want my crawl through lifelong sickness, just for my own benefit. I wanted to be a wellness advocate & help those who are in the same predicament. I wanted to be one of the helpers that Mr. Roger’s speaks about. I do this by reminding myself that my attitude can help me navigate through the dark channels of chronic illness.
I am determined to say thank you to the doctors, nurses, caregivers, anyone who helps me. Showing gratitude reminds you that your life is not over just because you are sick. I say thank you & I mean it. I also decided that I didn’t want to become idle. I want to actually accomplish something, so I started writing.
I believe communicating my pain, needs, & being willing to listen as part of communication allows me to be able to be in a good relationship with my team. I have a good support system of family, friends, doctors, nurses, & caregivers who allow me to achieve many of the goals I have made. I am able to live in my home & able to keep on breathing, writing, reading & loving on my boy, Nicholas.
Since 2017 I have been an owner of Wellness Works NW. I serve as the Research Manager. I am a lead writer & my column is called Chasing Wellness.

Last Day!
I will be getting off of the computer and probably won’t be back on until Saturday. I don't know if I will be taking my lap top to the hospital or not. I won't know the exact time for my surgery until after 4 tonight, but I know it was scheduled at 11 AM...
Practically Perfect Olive Oil Soap
The Soap Factory Dark Chocolate body soap bar made with olive oil and coconut oil is amazing stuff. When I get my infusion of Rituximab I get seriously dry skin. It flakes, it itches, and my skin feels like sandpaper. The only thing that I have found that works...
Answering The Creative Call
“Answering the Creative Call” by Kim Antieau is an awesome book. I love Kim’s suggestions and wisdom that she shares through-out her book. I have been reading Kim’s blog Furious Spinner for a lot of years now, probably the past ten years if I truly sit down and...
Many Possibilities
Man, the weeks seem to be going by faster and faster. In eight days I will be trachless. I will be going in for my 50th throat surgery. I will be going to sleep with a trach and then waking up without one. I am overjoyed with all the possibilities. There is a...
The Honor Key
“The Honor Key” by Russell Evans writes about honor. What do you think of when you hear the word honor? For me, I think showing respect, compassion, thoughtfulness, and being kind. Evans writes about what honor looks like in Jesus and how to accomplish it in...
The Possibilities
I have some news to share. I saw Dr. Anderson on Tuesday and it looks like I will be having another surgery. Not a dilation surgery. The surgery will be where they will cut off the flap of granulation that I have gotten from the taking out and putting back in my trach...
Cliches
I will start this post out by saying what a ride these last couple of days. First Sunday, I had to go to the emergency room. I have not gone to the ER in almost a year. I woke up Sunday coughing which signals that I need to change my trach. I do not have...
The Power of Persistent Prayer
“The Power of Persistent Prayer” by Cindy Jacobs is a comprehensive study on the different ways of praying and being an intercessor for God. I learned a great deal reading Jacob’s book. Reading her book coincided with Beth Moore’s book “Praying God’s Word” that...
The Sacred Year
“The Sacred Year” by Michael Yankoski book is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading every word. He goes on a sojourn in discovering himself and his relationship with God. I felt a kinship with Yankoski in that he explored silence, praying, and community during...
Medical Team
When faced with a scary and debilitating disease such as Wegener’s one must have a team of doctors to make being well a possibility. I’m thankful that with my stenosis I have a set of doctors that make my well-being a huge possibility. I have been blessed that God has...
